The objective of family life education is to enrich and improve individual and family life through education and support. The focus is mainly on prevention and knowledge rather than therapeutic methods. Family life educators share valuable information through workshops, published materials, websites, public speaking, and teaching. These professionals consider and address societal issues within the context of the family.
The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) offers an accreditation for educators who meet certain academic and experience requirements. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree related to family studies and 3200 hours working as a family life educator are required to become fully certified. A provisional certification is granted to those who have fulfilled the knowledge requirements but have not yet fulfilled the hour requirement.
